Media: Ceramics, Video Installation
Gallery: CSULB School of Art, Dennis W. Dutzi Gallery
This week I spoke with the artist, Brittany Waters. She is pursuing her BFA in the sculpture program. She works in ceramics but she said she sees herself as more of a sculptor. Brittany is from Sacramento and then moved to a beach town.
Brittany sculpted the turtles and then fired them in the kiln. Each turtle took her 2-3 hours to create.
Brittany’s work was inspired by her love for the beach and nature she developed after she moved. She also wanted to start a conversation about how people are out of touch with the world. She shared with us that our beach in Long Beach had sea turtles 150 years ago.
I liked this installation because I am a Marina Biology major. So anything that draws attention to the ocean I am a fan of.
